Jamila Osman is a Somali writer and educator from Portland, Oregon. She is the author of the chapbook A Girl is a Sovereign State (Akashic Books, 2020), and the 2019 winner of the Brunel International African Poetry Prize. Her poems and essays appear in The New York Times, Al Jazeera, The Adirondack Review, BOAAT, Diagram, Catapult and elsewhere. She is the current nonfiction editor at Brink Literary Journal.
