Call for Online Submissions
“Wouldst thou like to live deliciously?” – Black Phillip
Black Warrior Review is pleased to announce we will be reading submissions for our second online edition during the month of March. Submissions open March 1st and close March 31st.
Our theme is inspired by the final scenes of The VVitch (spoilers!!) While BWR is always interested in work that has a fairy-tale vibe, we want to note that this theme is extremely open-ended. We are particularly drawn to work that obliterates boundaries, and relishes in its resistance to easy categorization.
We want to see: your screeches + howls + strangeness + excess + adverbs + femme-ness + talking animals + badness + indecipherables + maximalisms + obliteration + monsters + gluttony + O lust, o lust, O lust + sins + hexes + alienation + a belly full of sea water + how you fill your ears with your ancestors + stuffing your throat with raw fish until it bursts + licking the dirt from underneath your fingernails + hallucinations + experimentation + plagues + boils + eruptions + rants + rats + fetishes + man-eaters + videos + image/text mash-ups + sounds + collaborations + rebellion + transgressions + celebrations + squawks + gasps + moans
For this online issue, we only have one submission category. It is up to you in your cover letter to tell us as much or as little about your work as you like. We welcome: fiction, nonfiction, poetry, comics, image + text, collaborations, sound, videos, cross-media/cross-disciplinary work. Show us how you transgress.
Past contributors to the print journal may submit after waiting only one year to the online journal. Past contributors to the online journal should also wait a year before submitting to the print journal. We view these journals as separate creatures, having meaningful conversations late into the night.
