National Poetry Month!

Apr 1, 2014Archive, Feature, News

For many poets, the start of National Poetry Month signals a time to create new work, and to develop their craft in unexpected directions. For those of us at the Black Warrior Review, the month of April also signals an opportunity to appreciate and re-engage with the poetry we’ve already published.

Every year, we send out calls for new and engaging poetry; every year, poets across the world rise to the occasion. In recent issues, the poetry we’ve published has run the gamut from reinvented sonnet structures to lyrical masterpieces. These poets have made BWR the renowned poetry journal it is today, and we’re constantly amazed at their ingenuity and dedication.

This National Poetry Month, we want to celebrate our poets by bringing their poetry to you. Each day of April, we’ll be publishing one poem from a previous issue here on this blog. We encourage our readers to participate via reading, sharing, and discussing the poetry on offer – and even via creating their own work in response.

We’re excited to commemorate National Poetry Month with the work of such talented poets, and we hope you’ll return throughout the month to enjoy some incredible poetry!

Happy reading,
