Bankhead Presents: Mathias Svalina and Joanna Ruocco (Take 2) on April 17!

Since inclement weather forced an unfortunate cancellation last January, Black Warrior Review and the University of Alabama are excited for another opportunity to host Mathias Svalina and Joanna Ruocco at the Jemison-Van de Graaff Mansion at 7:30pm, April 17 as part of the Bankhead Visiting Writers Series.  All readings are made possible by an endowment from the Bankhead Foundation, The Program in Creative Writing, The Department of English, and the College of Arts and Sciences.  Books, as well as keepsake broadsides of the authors’ work made by UA’s Book Arts program, will be available at the readings. Admission is free to all.

svalina_mMathias Svalina is the author of three books, most recently The Explosions from Subito Press, & numerous chapbooks & collaboratively written chapbooks. Love Symbol Press will soon release The Depression, a collaboration with photographer Jon Pack & Big Lucks Press will release Wastoid, a book of 154 love poems. With Alisa Heinzman, Hajara Quinn & Zachary Schomburg he co-edits Octopus Books. He teaches writing & literature at universities, community centers & prisons in Denver, Colorado.

SMWriters-01-20-13-JRuoccoJoanna Ruocco co-edits Birkensnake, a fiction journal, with Brian Conn.  She is the author of The Mothering Coven (Ellipsis Press), Man’s Companions (Tarpaulin Sky Press), A Compendium of Domestic Incidents (Noemi Press), and Another Governess / The Least Blacksmith: A Diptych (FC2).  Toni Jones, her more athletic alter ego, just released her first novel, No Secrets in Spandex, from Crimson Romance.
